Between December 5 and 17, Honeycomb faced one of its most severe outages due to a redundancy failure in its Kafka cluster. The disruption impacted data ingestion and querying across EU systems, with 0.23% of datasets fully offline and broader ingestion delays. Engineers mitigated the issue by disabling tiered storage, migrating to a new cluster, and reconstructing corrupted partitions. Although some Activity Log data was lost, recovery was completed through emergency migration and improved operational safeguards.
