🤖 Centrica Announces 1,300 Job Cuts Amid Customer Service Shift
The cuts highlight how automation and changing customer habits are reshaping large service teams, putting pressure on tech-enabled and support roles across industries.
Centrica, the owner of British Gas, announced on July 23, 2026 that it will cut about 1,300 jobs over two years. Around 500 cuts are in contact-center roles across Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Leicester, Stockport and Leeds, with roughly 800 more positions going elsewhere in the business, including outsourced offshore roles. The reductions equal 6.5% of the workforce, and about 14% of Centrica’s customer operations workforce.
